Art and Practice has been given to the word Nung to represent the commitment the philosophy has towards Progressivism. Striving for excellence marks the nature of the philosophy of Nungkyyii.
Art is defined as a technical expression of that which is extremely difficult demonstrated with ease, talent or aesthetics. When a musician reads music and plays an instrument, art is performed. When a gymnast executes a double somersault with a full twist, art is demonstrated. To achieve such an extreme state of art or exceptional level of talent and beauty, practice is of the utmost necessity.
Practice is defined as the repetition of developmental activity toward progress. To repeat an act without achieving improvement represents either a lack of objective focus, discipline, concentration, determination to succeed or all of the above.
When Art and Practice form a harmonious relationship and bonding partnership toward a desired goal, it raises the odds of achieving the goal to extremely significant levels. Once the goal is achieved, self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth become the rewarding gifts of the combined efforts of Art and Practice.
In Nung-Budo-Ky, Art and Practice is directed toward becoming a greater human being by way of meditation, Divine love and rightful living. Relationship becomes the laboratory of Divine love while behavior becomes the laboratory of rightful living. We become artistic in our ability to relate when we transform the difficulties of relating into simplistic expressions of joy, harmony and oneness. The number one difficulty in relating is caused by selfishness, taking more from the relationship than what is added to the relationship. Nungkyyii defines a relationship as the communication and activity of behavior patterns between two or more participants who are similar in thought and emotions and striving toward oneness. According to Nungkyyii's meaning of relating, oneness must be constantly developed as oppositions and indifferences are being resolved or eliminated. This process of developing oneness calls for the total sacrifice of selfishness. To better understand the laboratory (relationship) of Divine love, Nungkyyii breaks down relationship into three segments in order to obtain a more precise knowledge and understanding of its meaning. (Relate-Sion-Ship) Relate means to compare or develop likeness, sameness or oneness in thought, action and emotions. Sion means to give activity and expression to the thoughts and feelings of sameness or likeness that gives foundation to the relationship. Probably the most important of the three segments is Ship. As a container, Ship represents that which holds the behavior patterns together while love generates oneness. Nungkyyii calls this Ship or container a commitment. In layman terms, a commitment is a mutual agreement to get inside the Ship together and under no circumstances, ever get out of the Ship. When a commitment keeps the participants who are relating from jumping out of the ship whenever behavior patterns or emotions are frictional or in opposition, just remaining in the Ship together for a length of time is a fertilization of oneness that patience and love will definitely mature. Love, Patience and Commitment supported by Truth and Trust is the key to any successful relationship. Put into practice on a daily basis, these ingredients help develop the art of Divine love.
The art of Rightful Living begins when rightfulness is applied to all of the aspects of human life. We must eat right, sleep right, think right, pray right, behave right, exercise right and relate right. The difficulty of these human activities being executed rightfully is due to the habits acquired from American Culture. Instead of preparing a well-balanced and nutritional home cooked meal, our society promotes a trip to a fast food restaurant for junk food. Instead of falling asleep when the pituitary gland secretes melatonin into the blood stream and nocturnal agents force the body to rest, our social life lures us into the late hours of the night searching for pleasurable satisfaction. Instead of applying logic and drawing rational conclusions that result in positive and constructive outcomes, we make impulsive decisions that suit our state of emotions at that moment. These emotions result in inner conflict. Instead of asking God for a better understanding of his will and the strength to play the role that is destined in that will, we ask God for comfort and relief from suffering, along with material desires. Instead of behaving in a humane and harmless manner, we have allowed violence and hatred to become social acts of random activity. Instead of officiating our relationships with a commitment supported by truth, trust and love forever, we have succumbed to a temporary way of life (use it and when it no longer suits our needs or satisfies our desires, get rid of it and get a new one). This temporary attitude has created a social cancer in relationships called divorce. Instead of increasing the strength, flexibility, coordination and dexterity of the muscle skeleton through purposeful exercises that require hours of diligent effort and extreme levels of energy, exercise has become a marketable expression of fashion and fad, packaged into a high-spirited workout called aerobics. Rightful living is a necessary, intelligent and moral responsibility of the human race. Its practice is the only true and effective means of treating the mental ills of the human mind and the dehumanization of the human race.
Meditation is a brain activity in which the mind converts to a mode of receptivity of energy from different levels of cosmic frequencies. Meditation takes the human brain through altered states of consciousness. It is a process in which wisdom can be extracted from cosmic intelligence into intuition and transformed into conscious understanding. This mental process and ability requires diligent practice and extensive time of development. The gospel of Nungkyyii states that meditation is as crucial to the spirit as breathing is to the human body. According to the teachings of Nungkyyii there are three types of meditation; Receptivity - Concentration - Communication. The most powerful form of meditation is receptivity. In this state of meditation, wisdom is received from cosmic intelligence in the form of intuition.
Through intuitive activity the brain processes knowledge from the experience of trials and errors into comprehensive understanding. This process of communication from the Divine to the individual is the most important activity in the entire philosophy. This process provides the practitioner of the philosophy of Nungkyyii with the instructions of executing the law of being (one's destiny). Through daily meditation the practitioner gradually builds a greater level of consciousness of his or her being (self). The continuation of this development of consciousness eventually leads to the awareness of the soul. Soul consciousness puts the practitioner into an awareness of the creator, because the soul is a hologram of the creator. Since consciousness is the greatest means of human evolution, meditation is a mandatory expression in the further development of humanity. Meditating on a particular subject or idea is called concentration. Concentration raises our awareness of the subject or idea that we are focusing upon, thereby allowing us to explore a deeper understanding and use of our discovery. Concentration also conjures the powers of creativity and imagination and forces thought to manifest into things. Meditation is a very powerful form of communication through prayer. It allows us to communicate with cosmic intelligence and receive answers and solutions that assist us in solving our personal problems. The philosophy has developed a particular prayer called – the Ahkquraam. This ritual of meditation takes place three times a day. The first prayer takes place at sunrise as we receive the purest rays of the sun. We pray for wisdom to instruct and guide us along our spiritual journey of truth. The second prayer takes place at noon or when the rays of the sun are perpendicular to the Earth. We pray for strength to support our struggle against the obstacles and negative forces that occupy the path of truth. And the third prayer is performed at sunset. In this prayer we give thanks to the Infinite Mind of Intelligence and count the blessings that have lifted our spirit and caused an appreciation of the life that we are leading every day in truth. Without meditation spiritual life succumbs to unconsciousness and the individual is lead astray by spiritual illusions.
